Ways Internet Explorer 8 Helps You Get More Done
by S. E. Slack - used

Microsoft At Work
I use Microsoft Internet Explorer all day long, every day.
I've arranged all the settings just how I like them, and
once I've done that I don't like to change. I'm the kind of
girl who just wants technology to work when I need it; I'm
not into installing all the latest gadgets and upgrades so I
can one-up my friends. So whenever I hear there is a new
version of Internet Explorer, my first reaction is, "I don't
need that."
Then I hear
about some cool new feature in the newest version and
curiosity gets the better of me. I give the new version a
try and I'm always impressed by how things just keep getting
better. Each version of Internet Explorer seems to be
faster, safer, and easier to use than the last. And it's
free. You can always download and install the latest version
of Internet Explorer for free from the Microsoft Download
Center.
Here are some
recently added features that'll make your browsing
experience more productive.
Browse
without navigating to other Web sites using Accelerators
I find that I'm often copying and pasting information from
one Web page to another when I browse the Web - if I want to
map an address, find a definition, translate a word, or
e-mail content to a friend, for example. It works, but it's
time-consuming and awkward. But, you know what? My copying
and pasting days might be over. Now I can use the
Accelerator feature, new in Internet Explorer 8, to find
what I need to know and do what I need to do without
navigating to other Web sites.
Here's how it
works.

Networking: Getting Started
Wireless networking is an essential productivity tool for
today's mobile workforce. With wireless networking, you and
your employees can stay connected to your company's
information resources virtually anytime, anywhere.
Ready to get
started with wireless networking? Begin by familiarizing
yourself with the basics and benefits of having a wireless
network.
Next, consider the
following steps:
1. Make Sure
Your PCs Are Wireless
Most laptops today have built-in wireless networking
connections. If yours doesn't, you'll need to install a
wireless network adapter card, which is typically
inexpensive and easy to use.

Better Together? Better
Believe It!

When
I was much younger, I had a 1971 Mustang fastback I
nicknamed "Sleek." I loved that car, so much that I hung
onto it way past its useful life span. I became my local
mechanic's best friend, bringing my treasured wheels in
every few months for yet another repair.
I finally wised up
and traded it in for a brand new Mustang. As soon as I drove
off the dealer's lot, I kicked myself for not having traded
up sooner. My new ride was built better and had standard
features that weren't even available as options on my
previous car. I could count on it to start up on even the
coldest Chicago mornings (and trust me, they can be very
cold). What's more, it had more acceleration than old Sleek,
an important attribute when trying to pass someone on the
Dan Ryan Expressway.

Diagnosis: Excessive Happiness
Doctor
said patient was too happy

How
happy are you right now - this very second? Hopefully you're
at least somewhat happy, and perhaps you're very, very
happy!
In the medical
world there's a recognized medical condition called
EXCESSIVE HAPPINESS. It's described as existing when
people are in a state of denial about their "real" situation
or condition.
Most likely
you're not a medical expert, nor am I, but come on, with all
the illness and disease in the world, do we need an illness
called EXCESSIVE HAPPINESS? And what's the treatment
for it? To try to get the patient to feel miserable?
A close friend
of ours, Art Berg, was actually diagnosed by his doctor with
this EXCESSIVE HAPPINESS disorder. Here's how it happened.

Straight Talk On Business
Intelligence

You
run a small or midsize business. Maybe it's not rocket
science...then again, maybe it is. There's nothing small (or
even midsize) about the complexity of managing your own
business - it's big-time. On any given moment of any given
day, you might be working furiously to track the
effectiveness of your sales efforts, monitor your inventory,
juggle receivables against payables, and reduce
inefficiencies in production.
You've got all the
data - somewhere. It's in this sales report, that stock
list, those account ledgers, these production updates. In
other words, it's siloed here and siloed there. Wouldn't it
be great if it could all be pulled together, so you could
analyze it holistically and make truly informed, real-time
decisions?
